After the end of the Vietnam War, most all the world was at peace with great prosperity and progress in Civil Rights, Science, and Technology.
There was a blip with Desert Storm where UN coalition forces stopped Sadam at the Saudi border for a retreat after 6 weeks of action, so a 25 year span of Peace that saw Prez Carter orchestrate a peace and security agreement between Israel, Jordan, and Egypt.
What finally broke the Peace?
It's not a trick question, though you doubtless wouldn't know the answer...

At that same time, "The troubles" in northern Ireland were ongoing. As part of that conflict, in my own country, the IRA were blowing people up with bombs planted in pubs, railway stations, shopping centres.
Here are a few more interesting events that went down while "the world was at peace with great prosperity" ... in your head.
Cambodian/Vietnamese war.
US invasion of Grenada.
US invasion of Panama
US bombing of Libya
Afghan civil war.
Soviet invasion of Afghanistan.
Break-up of of the Soviet Union.
Chechen civil war.
Russian/Chechen war.
Falklands war between UK and Argentina.
Ethiopian civil war.
Angolan civil war.
Lebanese civil war.
Egyptian/Libyan war.
Islamic revolution in Iran.
Iran/Iraq war.
Gulf war.
Croatian war of independence
Kosovo war.
Bosnian ****** genocide.
Sri Lankan civil war.
And on and on we go ......
Is the answer to your question on that little list? If not, give me a clue, because there are literally hundreds of options I could chose from.Last edited by kafkod; 03-28-2023, 01:07 PM.Willow The Wisp likes this.

- - This is inarguable---After the end of the Vietnam War, most all the world was at peace with great prosperity and progress in Civil Rights, Science, and Technology.
Cambodia was part of that end as surrounding destabilization stabilized.
Grenada? General Schwarzkopf had to go to a drugstore for an international folding map that showed Grenada. Falklands equally tiny. Middle East always in a perpetual slow burn in the best of times, Irish Thicks, ect, ect...
The breakup of the Soviets ended The Cold War though remnants obvious remain that crop up whenever Western leaders fail in their governance and need an easy fall guy.
Your clue is who kicked off what became the "War on Terrorism" that is distinctly separate from Wars between countries no matter the size, and minor civil disturbances that crop up in every era and place.

If everything was so nice and peaceful until Dubya Bush declare War on Terror, then what was the terror he declared war upon and what happened to the twin towers?

The Vietnam War was an extension of the Korean War which was an extension of the Japanese occupation of China in the middle of the rise of Mao's guerillas against Chinese authorities when Hitler sparked the European Theater of WW2 that was considered an extension of WW1.
ie the most destructive consecutive decades in world history where world order was completely upended.
GW Dumb did not spark the war on terrorism, but somehow beyond the realm of reality he managed to mangle it to match his Mission Accomplished Banner and mangled syntax.
At least in your haphazard way uou are getting closer although that does ZER0 to mitigate smarmy tabloid headlines in an horrific ongoing tragedy orchestrated by the usual international power brokers used to post a smarmy boxing thread.

What I commented on was you saying that the Ukraine tragedy represents the devolution of mankind and the downward spiral of the modern world. I was just reminding you that mankind is not devolving or spiralling downward. We have been invading and occupying each other's territories, exploiting, killing, enslaving and terrorising each other since the year dot. You just proved that with your last comment!
Sadly, the kind of shit going down in Ukraine right now is nothing new.Last edited by kafkod; 03-29-2023, 09:37 AM.
