Yes, we could for example look at The Ring's year-end top-10s for 1930, and calculate the numbers for this group of boxers. We could find their total number of career fights, their average number of fights in 1930... and also the length of their respective careers.
Since we in such a case would be dealing with the best fighters in the world, we're eliminating all the journeymen with very few fights - so the averages would obviously be VERY different from any randomly selected group. The average number of career fights would certainly be MUCH higher than 34! Also I would expect the average number of fights during the year to be higher than 3.31 - though I'm unsure how much higher!
I have never given the length of a career much thought! Did the top old-timers have longer or shorter careers than their precent day counterparts? I would hate to hazard a guess, as I really have no idea - but it's an interesting question.
if anyone has the time to look into these things, I would be most interested to see the result(s)!
id heard sayings like a boxer is old by 30, likely because boxing was a hard trade if you fought all the time. Anyhow just curious.

Yes, Lefhook, I know you have assigned me Ghost of Dempsey, but Nash wants to mentor someone as well. Nash has decided to take on Stuntman Mike. Nash will mentor him. He is a helluva Stuntman, but could use some boxing education, and there are not too many better to give it than the Great Nash. Nash out.them_apples likes this.

Nash is a Boxingscene Hall of Famer, a true warrior, and a helluva poster.
Put some respect on the name of the Gypsy King, he is truly the greatest of them all.
The real 4 Kings - Tyson Fury, Brian Sutherland, Charlie Zelenoff, Hulk Hogan.
Nash has a mentor - The Ghost of Dempsey - Assigned by Old Lefhook.
Nash mentors Stuntman Mike - Self-assigned. Mike is a helluva Stuntman, but he needs further education in boxing, so the Great Nash has stepped forward.

Nash is checking in how the mentoring is going for everyone? Anybody made any progress with their charge? As I'm sure you all know, Nash has taken on Queensbury Rules, as their second mentor after Bilbo, Queen is still running riot spouting rubbish, but in time, we'll get there. Nash is also the sole mentor to Stuntman Mike, the finest Stuntman of them all, but very lacking in boxing knowledge, the same guy also removed his long time avatar of Pacquiao, his former fave fighter, but removed it the day after he lost 12-0 to Ugas. Disloyal fan, but Nash believes they can lead Stuntman Mike to being a worthy poster. Nash out.
