Ok! Here goes. Prime for prime 67 Ali vs 88 Tyson in a twelve round fight!

I think the fight starts at a very fast pace, you can bet Tyson will have been seriously p####d off after no doubt enduring at least two months of taunting and public humiliation. Ali wouldn't have been able to ignore Tyson's lisp and would probably be impersonating Tyson on every talk show and news documentary known to man. If you thought Tyson was up for Spinks, hell he'd be in great shape for Ali.

Tyson skips right into range throwing bombs, Ali is very much on his toes dancing, ducking and diving with the sort of pace he had to use against Sonny Liston in 64, he'd be like a yoyo, here and there. Only Tyson closes the range faster than Liston and his punches are quicker, that said he would be missing a fair few as Ali pulled away but he'd give Ali the scariest four or five rounds ever. Ali would have never envisioned how quickly Tyson could close the range to land varieties of fast punches.

In the first few rounds both would have their successes, Ali with his jab and right uppercuts. Tyson particularly with the left hook and body punches whenever Ali slides along the ropes, that said we wouldn't see many 3 and 4 punch combinations from Tyson. Peak Ali would ship some punishment but he was too slippery to be hit with the combinations that Berbick and Spinks had to endure.

It would not suprise me to have Tyson slightly ahead by round 6 on aggression and the heavier blows landed, he may even have managed to knock Ali down....no doubt with a left hook! The middle rounds would surely have a drop in pace and would probably involve Tyson cutting the ring down while Ali jabs and moves. Ali would no doubt be showboating and Tyson would be sneering with rage as he did against Tucker and waving Ali in to stop dancing away. This would be Ali's territory although he'd find that Tyson would be slipping a fair few jabs and trying to counter with hooks. Tyson's rushes would still look good but I'd fancy he'd be shaded on overall workrate through rounds 6-9.

I'd think that rounds 10 and 11 would actually be fairly close fought affairs, the body punches would have caught up with Ali and he wouldn't be quite so mobile, his increasing attempts at clinching may well be met now and again with nasty right to the body, right to the head uppercuts by Tyson but Ali's weight and leaning will have taken the sprite out Tyson's legs and Ali's jab will have frustrated Tyson and possibly caused swelling of an eye.

I'd expect a fast paced final round from both after being given the riot act by their corners but I'd favour that Ali would find that something extra late to clinch a fairly close decision, possibly by one or two rounds.

Good writeup and fairly objective stance.

That being said, I don't know if Tyson would be bringing it in the later rounds. He seemed to gas fairly easily. However, I'm not an expert on his fights, so maybe I'm wrong.

I can see him getting increasingly frustrated by not being able to find Ali while getting peppered with jabs and rights the whole fight.

Ali would certainly taunt him and let him know whose ring it is...even when he got caught (a la Frazier).

Ali would just dance around Tyson all night. Everytime Tyson would try to come in close he would hold him just like Buster Douglas did. I'm sure Tyson would be able to land some good shots but Ali would take them.

My pick: Ali by unanimous decision

ali would school tyson.Tyson was brutal with his fast combinations but ali was the heavyweight dancin master, ali would have this fight won in build up to this fight, verbally attacking him, mocking tyson etc..Theres no way tyson could have dealt with it,he didnt have the mental capicty to hold it all together.ali wins rounds 5-6

I agree 100% with you.I couldn't have said it better myself.

I think Tyson is the one fighter who may have beaten a Prime 66/67 Ali.

The only thing I would add is that Ali would be tying Tyson up in the clinches, especially when Tyson had him on the ropes or in the corners.

I believe Tyson wins the 1st fight, and Ali the rematch and rubbermatch. All 3 fights are very close.
