    Joe gans vs. Benny leonard

Two legendary figures in lightweight champion history, both apart of the oldtime generation pre-WWII when boxing was still evolving from pugilism. Leonard the master boxer against another wizened and clever fighter. Who do you see winning this in a 15 round fight?

I think Leonard was more complete as a fighter. Gans set the standard for a more fluid style of fighting improving on combinations and speed, but Leonard evolved it more helping him become one of the greatest fighter of his era, possibly the greatest.

Tough to say. I haven't seen footage of either, but both were masters at their craft according to everything written. In my opinion Leonard fought the tougher comp. But for Gans to have compiled the record he did in the era he fought, as a man of color.......enough said. Looking at the numbers they're matched up pretty evenly down the board. I'll decline to make a pick, but have no doubt it would have been a helluva fight.

If it's Just over 15 rounds, I go for Leonard by Decision....... A 40 round fight would probably be in Gan's favour.....Eight Hundred and counting !!!!!!!!!

            50/50

Personally I think when you get 2 guys that could be rated 1-4 at any spot in that top 4 in their division all-time, on any given night, either could win, fight twice it could be 1-1, they are so close in skill's that it's a toss up on any given night.

Like rspen46 said, it's 50/50, though I probably would give it to Gans on the slightest of edges.

Not into the fantasy match-up station the history section's fast becoming, but as it's the 'old master' himself, i'll say he'd toy with Leonard like a matador in what would be a long fight.. Leonard's in & out quicker on his feet, but Gans catches him either way. No depictions, but Gans is fav imo.
