Y’all are hilarious golovkin could’ve come over and tried to get a shot when Pavlik and Martinez were at the top they would’ve schooled him. Pavlik would’ve knocked him out cold. He also never asked to fight Martinez he didn’t want any part of him back then. He waited till cotto took the belt then start calling him out cause cotto a WW just like floyd was he chased the big names while avoiding tough fights just like everyone does nowadays. Bumlovkin is no different.

Back in the day I really wanted to see Dmitry Pirog, Mayweather, and Golovkin against Maravilla!

Who knows, maybe it's still possible for an exhibition with Mayweather or Pacquiao, I'd watch it.

Golovkin turned pro in Germany in 2006 and within 3 years had worked himself up to the WBA mando slot for Sturm. That's already quick. In what possible world would an unmandated, unknown Kazakh fighting out of Germany have been given a shot at Pavlik by 2008/9? Almost no-one in the US had even heard of him.

Between 2010 and mid 2012 Golovkin was in promotional purgatory under a legal injunction not to fight in the US or his adopted home of Germany having split from his promotoer Universum precisely because they weren't getting him the big fights.

What else exactly should he have done? 'Didn't want any part of him' my ass... GGG was calling out Martinez from virtually the moment finally got free of the Universum injunction and was able to resume his career in the US.

Unfortunately by the time the fight became viable Sergio was already struggling with the likes of Macklin and Murray (and even Chavez Jr) - and GGG would have destroyed that version of Maravilla - IMO no one should blame an already well past prime Sergio for choosing the money fights of Chavez and Cotto over a Golovkin who was still very much making his name.

        From 2012:

"I want [the winner of that fight]. I'm ready. I think Sergio is a much better boxer. Julio is strong, he's bigger. He's a good boxer too. I think it's a 50-50 [fight], but that's boxing. I want Martinez. I want Julio," Golovkin told jeetwin55.com.

DiBella on Wednesday made no bones about that during a telephone conversation – or rant.

“Who would give a flying (expletive), and why are you even asking?” DiBella said. “Who knows Gennady Golovkin other than you, me and a few other people? How many people would he bring to the table? How much money would he generate?

“He is a very good fighter, but it’s a fight that economically makes no sense.”
Golovkin is the kind of talent opposing promoters and fighters avoid. But DiBella assured us that is not what’s happening here. It’s about making sure Martinez can monetarily maximize his time left in the ring.

“Let (Golovkin) fight (Dmitry) Pirog,” DiBella said. “Let him fight someone else who needs to make a name in the States. He fought a stiff (Grzegorz Proksa) in his last fight. I think Golovkin beats Pirog, I think he beats a lot of the other middleweights.

“But he didn’t beat anyone in his last fight and this is Sergio’s time to make a lot of money. We’re not going to fight fights that do not generate any income.”

He's obviously being sarcastic and downplaying his chances.
It's not as if Falcao is a more dangerous opponent

Prime for prime, Sergio > GGG

Is it a stretch GGGeezer opts to fight Sergio instead of Charlo (or Lara even)

              Martinez is 7 years older.
              Fought much better comp
Was injured late in his career due to being silly (vs JCC jr).

It's easy to look like a ''beast'' when a guy is fighting the likes of Ishida, Rosado, Ouma, Stevens, Adama, et al

Who else was in the ''too scared to fight GGG'' bullshlttery ?!?!?
              Cotto ?
He was ...aight....at MW. He will never be remembered for his time there.

              May ?
              Talk about chasing $$$$
It would have been a L/L scenario for May.
Since it would not have been at MW, had he beaten GGG, people would only cry ''CW !!!!!''.
If it were at MW and May won, people would have cried and call GGG a hype job who got by beating bums.

We all know GGG didn't push too hard on fighting Ward.

              Who else was there ?

Brave GGG didn't have it in him to venture North and take on bigger versions of the bums he fought at MW.

Floyd ducked ggg, as he wanted his zero, not greatness. The fighting berto and former light flyweight with 70 fights under belt is Floyd s limit?

Of course a Pac Boi is going to try and seek out a lame Pyrrhic victory (look it up)

GGG's reflexes/timing are shot. You want to see him look like a new man, put him in there with someone 8 years older who is even more shot with even worsened reflexes. His power is still going to be there. He would knock Marvilla's head off.
