    Cyborg Dawn?

Pedots have been around for a while and the idea of em being used for a biocompatible interface ain't new (if you were a fan of the Deus Ex games you'll know what I'm talking about) but it seems like this **** may have brought us closer to a stable, non-scarring material that ain't rejected by the body.

With Elon Musk by accounts making significant progress on Neuralink it's looking increasingly likely we're on the verge in a new technological and possibly transhuman revolution.

What folk thinking here?... A functional and useful technology that will be adopted seamlessly into our day to day or some technological nightmare prison that will lead to our control and downfall at the hands of machines, mind control by a sinister cabal of (insert preference here) or some other dystopia?

Are you referring to an i robot type thing or something along those lines?

If so i can see humans build robots that will shut us out of our own systems. I'm completely convinced they can do a global take over so to speak but I can see us as a race going back to our own version of the dark ages if that's the case.

Neuralink, I believe will be a thing solely to help people with brain trouble that effects their movement. Like stroke victims that have lost the use of their limbs, the link will reconnect their brain neurons to aid them....... maybe Parkinsons and things like that as well.

To the second point. People are already connected to technology, it's an extension of yourself. Your PC, phone, VR etc

I believe that people will eventually do everything virtually...... humans are already largely connected to their phones, Alexa etc

Nah, although that's an interesting one. This tech is about human -machine interfaces. Mind controlled cybernetic implants, or imagine a smartphone chip in your brain or a media ******ing device plugged directly into your optical nerve or visual cortex.

Yeah it's taking it that step further into making those devices a literal part of our bodies, possibly even, further down the line, building in hard drives to increase our memories or even becoming virtual beings ourselves (via the digitisation of our personalities - though whether that is even possible remains conjecture) or at least spending all or most of our time in virtual environments... although of course there's a school of thought proposing that we're already in Matrixesque simulation.

Oh, for sure that will happen. Already we have people with technology inside them (pacemakers), and even people with ticks (like tourettes or Parkinsons) can have electric pulses through them to control their shakes.

You mentioned Deus Ex before (love that series) and that's a very real possibility in the near future. Humans augmented with bionic limbs and upgraded vision etc

I'm only 34 so I believe I will see it in my lifetime.

Ha I got a few years on you, but I think yeah, were looking at something that's gonna be real sooner rather than later. Ain't just some sci-fi shet anymore.

And then of course like in the Deus Ex universe you gotta wonder at what social problems might be caused by having enhanced 'Augs' living and working amongst regular folk.

That last paragraph hit the nail on the head.

How will humans react when augmented people start taking their jobs, or become "better" than them?

A guy with bionic arms and legs suddenly starts loading trucks by himself, taking away the need for a forklift driver...... and doing it faster.

The Deus ex games really fired off these questions in my head, and made me wonder if that path is even worth going down.....

Even now, we have machines and AI taking people jobs and making jobs easier.

I think this will happen with augmented humans as well. They will be treated with disdain and blamed for peoples problems..... then normal humans will be obsolete. lol

Best games, like the best movies or books are the ones that leave you with questions, man, get you thinking. And I always loved that whole Cyberpunk genre anyway right from Bladerunner through the books of William Gibson (one of my favourite authors ever... dude was almost prescient in some ways) to more contemporaray stuff like the Deus Ex games.
