    Any Blacksmiths here?

Today I'm going to try to make a sword.

I don't know ****, but, I do have a some tools. I used to refine gold for my father until he passed. I've crucibles, tongs, that sort of nonsense.

    I have a big hammer

I make molds for human parts for prosthesis for a living and a sword mold is a walk in the park for me.

I do NOT know how to weld and I did not carve a guard into the mold. So, just a blade and handle really.

If there are folks here who are interested or can offer me advice that'd be great. If not, no worries, the internet's a big place.

All swords should have a name. I'm thinking Terrorform. Because what the **** am I going to use a sword for? Maybe hacking away some brush and weeds and ****. It's a pun on terraform. gonna bring terror to them bushes and snakes...not really, kinda like snakes, but the venomous ones I'll kill jic, cause, kids.

Anyway, off to make a sword.

Good luck! Very cool pursuit there. What kind of metal are you using?

              ****ing hot that ****!

I'm using industrial steel. I assume, I'm using old rusted **** I have. Nails, some parts not sure what they go to, stuff like that. If a magnet sticks, it's got iron, it goes in. Not good stuff because I am sure my first will be ass.

Steel is like a thousand degrees hotter than gold and damn does it cool ****ing fast. Not to the touch, but to a solid, ****ing fast. All metal goes solid fast but this **** skins before I can carry it just a few feet. You have to be fast and careful. Have your mold right by your forge or kiln or whatever. - heat source.

I was surprised by the skin but didn't pour until I was pretty sure I could. I just kept reheating, looking at the skin, and shaking my head and reheating again.

As far as impurities. I just scoop them out while the metal is liquid in the crucible. Not sure what it'd be, I think rusty would just melt in no? Probably minerals and such, dirt. **** if I know, I'm guess this whole thing.

From a mold making perspective, I can tell tomorrow is going to be hell. I though I could pour, pull, and grind all in one day No way. I'll pull it in the morning probably, and that's going to take hours.

Turns out that sword in the stone **** is true as ****. Not sure how you get them out...might break it out.

Thanks buds. I'll take a pic tomorrow.

This is the only black Smith I know that knows anything about swords.

It's something I've always wanted to do. Where I live the houses are too close together to have a forge though. I watch Forged in Fire every Wednesday.

Unfortunately my younger brother has invaded my shop for a while. I encouraged him a while back to sell epoxy tables and I'll be damn he has. So it wouldn't be right for me to say **** off I need my shop right now. Soon as his stuff is cured I can make dust again and get back to work. Gives me time to buy some nuts and bolts for the handle anyway.

Literally, nuts and bolts. I thought it was funny as **** when I realized I have like every screw man ever devised but no nuts or bolts.
