A lot of why the insult became popular is internet specific.

People getting into political arguments on facebook, reddit & looking up the user's history discovered a pattern where ******* men all seemed to be in "open relationships" (she ****s everybody, he ****s nobody) or subscribed to disgusting racial self-humiliation ****ography websites.

Soy boy is similar (internet users noticed a pattern where the same group of creepy guys tended to follow estrogenic soy shake companies, or feature their products in their photos)

However simp is the currently most widely used & refers to... Again the same group of guys. With the rise of camgirl/E-girl culture, they tend to spend their meager incomes paying for "fanclub memberships" to random girls who sit there playing video games & smoking weed all day.

Non-internet addicts are aware of this group of guys but just lack the super-specific terms... They just call them ******* f*ggots
