I've done this work before and I prefer not to. I would also question what the liability would be if your brakes should ever fail after doing it yourself and someone gets injured or killed. I doubt your insurance company will cover it, and you may even end up being sued or having criminal charges filed against you.
Bro seriously this isn't your wheel house. Paying is fine if you don't like the work. But to say a brake job will fail is a far reach. Breaks are one of the most straight forward things you can do.

How would they fail? You push the piston in and install new pads. You remove the rotor and put a new one on. It's pretty basic and my 13 year old daughter can now do this on her own now. We do them together.

True that but I understand where he's coming from when he mentions getting sued. Our legal system when it comes to civil suits can be a real circus. You can do everything right, be at no fault whatsoever, and still a lawyer may find a way to make you look, to an ignorant jury, like the bad guy. I've been there (on a completely different matter) and it's a nightmare that still plays in my head on repeat.

I'm still going to do my own brakes but it does give me pause

What can you mess up? Seriously, I'd like to see a atty try and blame a brake job for a accident. You simply remove the caliper. You pop put the pads. You push the piston in with a clamp and install everything in reverse. It can only go on one way.

What's next? You can't change a light bulb?

You’re preaching to the choir BUT I’m telling you, the truth doesn’t always prevail in court. You can bet the opposing attorney will pack the jury with folks who are in no way mechanically inclined. Think very emotional, middle aged women. Start telling them about compressing pistons and torquing bracket bolts and their eyes will begin to glaze over with visions of accident scenes dancing in their heads.

Guess I'd just have to show them a YouTube video. Then they could get pussed they got robbed on their brake job.

I've done brakes before. Look, a faulty brake pad, lines that weren't bled properly, or some other mishap could end up being a liability, especially if someone is injured. Insurance company will want to know why they failed and who worked on them. Is it a longshot, yeah I suppose. But I prefer to have a licensed mechanic work on anything safety related.

You don't even have to bleed them if you're not changing the fluid.

Whatever, I have no issue with people that use to pay me to do this. I jusy find it funny that people think this is risky. It amazes me parts stores even sell them at this point, being that there's so much risk.
