Man finds pedestrian’s body on roof of SUV after driving to work, authorities say

LONGVIEW, Texas (KLTV/Gray News) – A man was killed in Texas Friday morning after being hit by a vehicle, authorities say.

According to Robby Cox, Gregg County Justice of the Peace for Precinct 4, the driver of an SUV didn’t realize he had hit someone and kept driving to work.

Cox said the driver discovered the pedestrian’s body on the roof of the SUV when he got to work.

The man was pronounced dead just after 8 a.m. Friday, Cox said. His identity was not disclosed.

Authorities said the crash was an accident.

How does a driver not know they hit someone ?
How empty were the streets at that time ?

Nah man. You never been driving down the highway and hit a dragonfly or something? You see it coming, it makes a little impact noise and you’re very aware you hit something. Just pointing out how ridiculous it is that someone could hit a grown human being and not be aware of it.

kara doesn't have the details quite right. Here's the news article which makes this story make more sense.

Longview police report Michael Ross, 55, of Longview was walking southbound on Neiman Marcus Parkway when a SUV traveling northbound struck him.
At the time of the crash, the immediate area was dark, according to police who responded at 5:45 a.m. Police said Ross failed to yield the right of way to the vehicle.
Police report Ross’s body was discovered after the driver drove on for three blocks to a well-lit parking lot and stopped to contact police.
Ross was pronounced at the scene.

So, it was dark, and the SUV driver knew he had hit something, just not what. It's dark and he probably didn't have a safe place to pullover, so he drives a short distance to where it is safer (well-lit with room) and looks. Not an idiot at all, just a judicious person.

                  That is more probable.
I believe homeboy must have also been distracted.
If it was so dark he couldn't see 20 feet in front of him (I'm assuming his lights worked ?), an alert driver slows waaaaaaaaay down.
At least he did get the police involved.....still fishy.
