I want to alert my fellow Members to something very dangerous that is occurring. It is epidemic in the Bay Area By the way....

Everyone knows about the car theft here, and the retail theft. I won't sound alarmist bells, but when a mob capable of overpowering a police force comes, en mass to a retail location and proceeds to grab things and leave... To me that borders on terrorism because essentially? You are acting against the state and taking on the state agency used to protect consumers... The cops are not capable of stopping these groups.

But even that is not as bad as the latest act of car theft. Not talking smashing windows, taking things out, I am talking about stealing catalytic converters. One of my people I manage has an old Honda. Told me that on one night about 5 carloads of people descended on a working class area and took most cars catalyctic converters... Now heres the thing: One of those averages over a thousand dollars to replace. How are people who depend on their cars for their livlihood supposed to afford a part of this cost?

Basically you destroy a person's ability to earn an income. The state of course will fine anyone without a converter on sight. I literally had to arrainge a situation where my friend purchased an old Honda for the same price of the converter. I will have him put it up on our rural property to canabilize for parts... So at least he gets something for the purchase.

This stealing is an act of sabatoge. It should be dealt with severly because it has the potential to destroy lives... one of the ring leaders for the smash and grab gangs was allowed to post bail by the way... California has no problem, especially the Bay Area, ticketing and towing people with no CC on their vehicles... This is an outrage.

During the storms, someone tried to nail my son's off his truck BTW. We were lucky... You catch someone doing this act of sabotage? and you break their skull, guess who goes to jail?

It's all over man. As much as I'd like to pin this on CA it's been happening here bad for the last 6 months or so. I'd the government won't do anything to stop this if mine gets taken I'll just drive without a cat.

People need to petition the local people... if no one is ticketed their value goes down. I know the FEDS are looking at the supply chain for the converters. I would do the same by the way...

Thing is they could stamp all of these with a serial number from the factory or stamp them with a Vin number. But they're not doing so. So if they won't help prevent this from happening I won't run one.

It's really that simple. I head some cars are 5k for a new one. *** that!

Catalytic converter theft has become a problem here too.

The cops here in Long Beach set up a station to engrave the VIN on the car's converter, no charge. Unfortunately I missed that window of opportunity but a couple of my neighbors did it.

Sounds like a business opportunity. If you have the equipment it's a quick process. Would you pay someone $10?

It’s been a problem for a long time. My Land Cruiser’s got stolen while parked at my then companies underground parking lot.

I had to have it towed to the Toyota Dealership and pay a lot.
