How well rounded are you when it comes....

    .......to music?

With over 10,000 records/tapes/CD's combined, I have all of it pretty much covered, and I have it by genre.

Starting back there them old blues from the 20;s, 30;s, next to that blues from the 40;s to present day, Then moving from the back of my Fotress of Solitude (ok ok garage)

Jazz, Big Band, early country/hillbillie, Doowop, Oldies, Rockabilly British rock, American rock, Bluegrass, Soul, R&B, Heavymedal, Funk, Punk, Rap/HIP Hop, Reggae. modern country. A legit problem is when in a listening mood......what??? I stand there five minutes sometimes debating on what to listen to.

What I like to do is make mixed tapes since I have a tape deck in my truck, I usually go with some theme,,,,,trains, prison, booze, violence, prewar blues, Appalachian, Texas, Louisiana, etc etc.

Used to happen a lot where I'd discover someone new to me, not so much anymore, my last discovery, it appears they recorded a few CD's but they couldn't get along and broke up, what a shame that was, as ya can see they definately had........it.

Hip hop, punk, and everything in between from Wu Tang to Dave Matthews band to hieroglyphics. Rancid, fat Joe, power pop, Mr t experience, age of electric, grunge, folk rock like Frank black this monkeys gone to heaven, or headache. Metal like metallica. Classical piano training till grade 8, drum lessons with a jazz teacher, fiddling around on my cigar box guitar, getting off on female vocalists, the distillers, Jenny woo, bad cop/ bad cop to randale records UK punk. Down with Questlove, Travis Barker and Branden steineckert, rancids drummer too. Favorite bassist Matt freeman-. Always wishing that metallics would turn the bass up- Robert Trujillo. Down with Christian rap KRS one, one8tea, fresh ie , da truth, to alternative bands that have a good frontman singer and ok bands are awesome bands like in the 90s: everclear, rem, tragically hip, creed, Nickelback, etc. Down with r n b, jahiem, r Kells, and I play an instrument from the great depression, a Diddley bow.

I have respect for the upright bass, the violin, the piano even consider the keys a percussive instrument. Boy bands, back in the day, east coast music great big Sea, and bohdrams and tippers, infatuated by the percussionist not the drummer sometimes. Respect for the old school my parents listened to, meat loaf, Huey Lewis, like a rhinestone cowboy, been in a few bands have 3 drumkits, have a basement studio with all my other instruments, love doing covers.

Great minds think alike! Thank goodness for Spotify and social distortion. Lately getting into Shane spiel videos.

i can see you get the importance of variety in music, I failed to mention folk, like in Woody Guthrie, Leadbelly. Good take, hell...Nickleback!!!!

Well then what ya need to do is go way back in time to the days of Ma Rainey, Blind Lemon Jefferson, Bessie Smith, Papa Charley Jackson, the roots of it all. Nothing compares to this old stuff when it comes to knowing you are some place ya don't belong.

I’m mostly listening to singer songwriter stuff at the moment. Paul Simon, Nick Drake, Cat Stevens etc.

I listen to most genres although I struggle with jazz. I can’t seem to get into it, perhaps it’s not melodic enough for me.

I've lately found it fond to listen to classical pianist playing rap songs, such as still Dre! And this guy named "Torley" does this Wu Tang thing. I forgot to mention country music aka rascall Flatts and my favorite song "sweet Jane" cowboy junkies. My friend knows how to play paparazzi by xzibit on the piano. It rocks!!!

I grew up listening to stuff my mom listened to. So a lot of Beatles, Whitney Houston, Michael Jackson, Heart. Bands like that. Guns n Roses was my first favorite band when I was 8 or 9.

Around middle school in the early/mid 90s, I got into grunge and alternative. Bands like Alice In Chains, Nirvana, Smashing Pumpkins, Red Hot Chili Peppers, Tool, Radiohead were my favorites.

Eventually in high school, I discovered weed, classic rock and eventually blues. Led Zep, Jimi, Sabbath, Doors, Pink Floyd were gods to me. After classic rock, I naturally discovered blues, saw the movie Crossroads and it changed my life literally hahaha.

I got into BB, Muddy, SRV, and the old man who sold himself to the devil. I got his two disc collection. Something very haunting about listening to the old Robert Johnson recordings.

I'm also really heavy into the metal scene. Love everything from Death metal, progressive, doom, even black metal. Not to mention hair metal in the 80s. I played guitar in some metal bands throughout the years, never got too far or gained any real success though.

Went through an 80s goth phase where I discovered bands like the Cure, Depeche Mode, Sisters of Mercy. Eventually discovered an LA goth band called London After Midnight from the early 90s.

Also have a thing for classical music. Big orchestras, as well as solo classical guitar. Listening to a lot of Andres Segovia lately and flamenco guitarists like Paco De Lucia and Vicente Amigo.

And Joe Pass, but he's more jazz than anything.

Everything I mentioned above I still listen to, depending on the mood.

But my 3 main loves are metal, classic rock, and classical music.
