Correct. Wilder's mandatories weren't so much fighters that he had no option to fight, they were fighters that his team accepted.
Like I said, I don't know why that fight was ever happening. It was so far from anything else he did. Which makes it very su****ious that the fight didn't go...JakeTheBoxer likes this.

Correct.
The one that sticks out for me, though, is Povetkin.
Why on earth was he taking that fight? When you look at the other choices he made it stands as a strange decision.
Or did they somehow know it wouldn't go ahead?...El_Mero likes this.

He wasn't shot when people claimed he was, and he's not brilliant now. He's a decent sized good boxer, and potentially a titlist once more, but lacks any truly elite attributes.shenmue likes this.

If people buy into the nonsense then that's on them.
What I will say is that Wilder massively overachieved with just a couple of decent attributes. A guy of his talent shouldn't have been anywhere near the top two conversation, yet he rattled up title fights and millions of dollars....

Good write up. I don't doubt he's less than he was, but the Parker and Zhang fights were nothing out of the ordinary for him.
He's a fighter who offers nothing until he lands a big punch. Then he met men who could be offensive and wouldn't simply walk onto that punch and got beaten conclusively....landotter likes this.

He hasn't had the reflexes in 4 of his last 5 fights, but then they were against top level fighters. Well, if you include the wobbly and careless version of Fury that showed up in the third fight.
My prediction is that he'll suddenly remember how to "pull the trigger" now he's...
