The types of people at the boxing gym.

    1) The guy who shadow boxes/warms up in a baseball hat, worse yet you have those who train in durags. Really irks me for some reason, but I get it it's their choice.

    2) The chatty kid who is there to talk boxing and be friends with everybody at the gym than put in actual work.

    3) The trainer who gets salty and takes it personally when you can't fight on a certain date cuz ummm I don't know may be the person has two exams the same day.

    4) The try hard: This guy probably watches 24/7 episodes before every session and intends to make every sparring session a slug fest and after wards "bro I was only going 20% eh". Rrrright!

Any more you guys want to add?

      3) I'm sorry if I try to balance boxing with university.

      4) Sparring to me isn't rock'em, sock'em every single time. Occasionally yes, but not every time. You only have so many hits in you. Technical sparring is also important.

Speaking of the list, and given your avi, you sound like #4 to me. 20% eh?

It's not unreasonable for the op to say those things. My coach went to the same uni I'm going to now so understands what it's like. But lots of amateurs have jobs as well which may not allow them to fight on weekdays. In scotland most fights happen on the weekend if not Friday.

As for sparring yeah it's good to go hard sometimes but it can be annoying if they claim they are going light when they clearly aren't.

Ill add the normal person who wants to better himself and better his fight team through encouragement and hard work and the wannabe tough guy who works through his own self esteem issues to become a valued member of the gyms community.

Why is everyone on your list ****ty?

The guy who takes up boxing and is already ripped or into bodybuilding and thinks he's going to have an edge over a lot of people in the ring. (They're always in for a rude awakening)

The people who have good technique and look good on the heavy bag but are terrible at sparring

The people who used to do MMA and are taking up boxing (a lot of em suck but some of them actually get good)

The really talented female boxers that will give a lotta guys trouble (there's at least two at my gym and they will **** u up if u underestimate em. They're actually amazing to watch too)

The father son duo where the kid boxes seriously and the father is usually involved with everything he does (I actually love seeing that, there's at least 5 duos like this at my gym)

That's a couple that come to mind

#3 is my biggest problem with the sport of boxing and a lot of trainers.

I admire you're passion and you working with me but boxing is not my whole life. I have school and a part time job also. Trainers are looking for "that one" to get them out and make it. My coach got mad at me once for asking me to fight a Sat and he asked me on Tues after I got my work schedule already.

You raise a valid point. My list is very negative. Thanks for your input.

It's not just that they actually think you're good, but to some you're a piece of meat to use, so you fight on another gym's club show miles and miles away while you could've gotten a bout right next door only so, they reciprocate by doing the same.
