    Are Running Machines As Good/Effective As Roadwork?

    are running machines just as good as doing roadwork?

    #2
    Yes they are, threadmill might be even better for some people as you can't slow down. While running outside when you start getting tired you might slow down without even noticing it.

    Personally i still prefer running outside, but i also have a threadmill in the basement.

      no. they are not as effective for certain muscles in your leg. i believe it's the muscles you use to push off.

      you can prove this yourself by running a mile on a treadmill one day and then turning around the next day and running a mile around a track.

        In general, you will get a fairly comparable workout on a treadmill as you do outside as long as you maintain the same effort level. You can usually judge this based upon your heart rate or your rating of perceived exertion). If, however, you run the same pace on the treadmill as outside on flat pavement, you will expend less energy on the treadmill. This is due to the lack of wind resistance, terrain changes and because the treadmill belt helps propel you along. In order to compensate for the treadmill's momentum, studies have found that simply raising the treadmill incline to 1 percent will better simulate the energy expenditure of walking or running on flat pavement outdoors.

          running outside is way harder then running on a treadmill because when ur on a treadmill it kinda bounces u up a lil bit with each step and makes it easier.there aint no bouncin on the sidewalk. i dont see elite fighters wakin up at 5 am to run on a treadmill.

            If anything that bounce is going to make running on a tread mill harder. force has to come from some where to bend the board and make it bounce. force that if you were running on a road would be used to propell you forward instead of bending the tredmill.

              Well I all I have to say is this...

              I don't see very many pro boxers running on the treadmills.

                there are reasons for that you idiot. dont make it sound like because pros prefer to run outside that means its better

                @ts
                when you run outside you get distracted, the time flies by, you get fresh air which cools you down which helps you perform at a higher level for a longer time

                on a treadmill there are no distractions. you think about how long you ran and how far etc every single second because the numbers are right in front of you. youre at the same exact spot the entire time. its boring. theres no fresh air, its warm. same with the stationary bike

                there are pros and cons to both. but if the treadmill doesnt bore you theres nothing wrong with picking that over running outside. youre still burning the same calories, its not fake running. 1 mile on a treadmill is the same mile youd run outside. its not like outside one mile is longer or harder to run unless you run up a mountain

                  running on a treadmill is easier because the whole impact of ur weight comin down is lessened from that lil bounce on the treadmill. running on a street u gotta use the muscles that were lessened in that bounce and u feel the whole impact of each step through out ur body. im not sure if uve ran on a treadmill and on the street but if u have then ud feel the difference.

                    might strengthen your bones and tendons as sharp impacts do but over all calorie expenditure will always be greater on a tread mill.

                    if youve tried riding a full suspension mountain bike vs a road bike on the road youd know exactly what im talking about.
