[quotenot very scientific to measure punching power between people who are in completely different weight classes.

There's a very simple reason for this. They chose those amongst the best in their martial art, many martial arts don't require size, they require agility, speed and technique. Take for example Ninjitsu, here they have to be lean and easy on their feet, being 240lbs would make this hard. Likewise, it's hard to be amongst the best boxers (in general terms, not weight divisions) if you're only 140lbs. They measured them on ability, not size.
that a guy punching from his legs and waist will hit harder than a guy punching from his shoulder.
Well yeah and no. A punch should start on the ground, the energy starts in your legs, you move your hips the energy is then coiled up, up through your back and shoulder and finished off with your arm. Your back and shoulders have massive muscles, it would be ****** to not utilise them. Likewise, it would be ****** to try and punch without using atleast your hips. So a guy punching from his legs, waiste and shoulders will hit the hardest.
if you train to hit hard, you will hit hard. your mindset means alot.
even untrained people can hit hard. what boxing and other martial arts teach is how to recover faster.
a guy who throws nothing but massive swings at me would not scare me (unless he was a prime george foreman) but someone throwing short concise blows withou leaving themselves open is a far more difficult proposition.

I think that's bs. There's no reason in the world they couldn't take a 140lbs boxer. If anything the lighter guys have better technique than the lumbering heavyweights, and comparing to martial arts would be more fair.
Generally, no specific names nor time period, best heavyweight vs. best middleweight, who'd win? I would say the best heavyweight. A lightweight, welter, middle, whatever, may be able to beat a bad, reasonable or eveng good heavyweight but I wont accept that they would be able to beat the best heavyweight.

That is not because of skill though, just size. The arguments you made on why martial artists had to be small, was because of their skill level, therefore, for your argument to be consistent, a boxer would have to be a certainsize to attain the optimal skill level. This is not the case. A 140 lb boxer can be at a just as high (I'd even claim it's a general occurrence) skill level as a heavyweight. Therefore there would be no problem with using the best 140 lb fighter, if you wanted to compare the power of a boxers punch to a 140 lb martial artist. In fact, it would be the only sensible way to do it. Unless you want to rig it in the boxer's favor before you even make a comparison?
Don't act like u know anything about boxing J, u are full of bs.
U should always punch from your legs, waist AND your SHOULDERS

they chose a wushu guy. he is perhaps one of the best dancers. but does he train modern wushu or martial arts. don't take my word for it. look it up yourself - i mean the difference. one focuses on forms, the other focuses on function/usage.
your theory of where a punch gets its power from is one of many many different ways. the way i coordinate a punch is a bit different than yours.
