Comments Thread For: Curmel Moton explains why he was overweight for Bryan Mercado

Curmel Moton's ascent stalled when the 18 year old lightweight came in significantly over the agreed 133lbs catchweight limit, leading to the postponement of his six-round fight with Bryan Mercado at ACX1 Studios in Atlantic City, New Jersey

148.7 lbs for a 133 lbs catchweight? For a guy that was supposedly a "lightweight prospect" that was planning to go DOWN to super featherweight aka 130 eventually to start his "ascent" to stardom? That is just...beyond laughable at the number he blew through. He didn't even make the welterweight limit, and is closer to the super welterweight limit than the super lightweight limit. I hope he just said eff it and walked in with a stomach filled with Thanksgiving turkey stuffing, because if 148.7 lbs was a result of an extremely failed weight cut I want to know what he started at, 160 lbs?

Feel sorry for the opponent, they "postponed" the fight but I don't see how a guy that was supposed to be his below lightweight limit opponent will be fighting a guy that will probably be better off at welter for starters.

By the way anyone know what his actual height is? He can't be really 5'2" like his profile says and weighed in at 148 lbs because that is a normal average joe on the overweight side, let alone a boxer after cutting weight (if he really did even try to cut weight).

You don't expect this huge overweight on the scales from a blue-chip prospect such as Moton.
              Am confused with
              1. his going up and down in weight divisions
              2. why he came in that many pounds over
              Can someone enlighten me ?

Well I guess he's got an excuse now (updated in the same article) and it doesn't make it any better: “I want to apologize to everyone that was planning on coming to Jersey to watch me fight,” said Moton. “I’ve been going back and forth with the commission about my bloodwork passing, and as of right now, they lost my blood in their system [which meant the fight was unlikely to be sanctioned].

I’ve known this for the past three days, so there was no point in killing myself to make [the] weight. They still made me weigh in for some reason, and they decided that was the reason they were going to cancel the fight.

“Regardless, I’ll be back in Japan on December 30th [at the potential exhibition involving Ryan Garcia]. See you all there."

Hey kid, maybe you should also apologize to your opponent who ended up wasting a lot of time and effort because of your idiocy. If they knew from a few days ago, why didn't anyone bother to notify Mercado so that he didn't have to kill himself the last few days to make weight (which he did, like any borderline responsible boxer at the least tries to)? This excuse only shows that regardless of whatever talent he may or may not have, this kid is just another over privileged immature teenager brat hyped up too much at a young age who's got no respect for others. To add on this whole issue about his bloodwork possibly not passing or what not makes me wonder if he's got illegal drugs in him (if not necessarily PEDs but other stuff). At least he's probably going to be a good sidekick to the immature social media influencer-boxer Ryan Garcia if he's joining the RIZIN event too.

Too bad his opponent is a nobody, and doesn't have promotional backing to stick a middle finger to these kinds of piss moves other promoters make.
