Comments Thread For: The Beltline: Martin Bakole and Daniel Dubois give hope to heavyweights cut down to size

THERE is no defeat in boxing quite like the one suffered by a heavyweight. The punches responsible for it are louder, and more hurtful, and the scene of devastation is usually akin to that of a house party the morning after. Even for the lucky ones, the ones who finish on their feet rather than staring up at the lights, a heavyweight defeat remains a humiliating experience, with either exhaustion involved, or flailing limbs and desperate clinches only compounding the sense of humiliation.

When I read the title of this article I thought this was going to be about punching Usyk on the belt line. Apparently Bakole claims he stopped Usyk in sparring with a body shot and Dubois almost stopped Usyk in a real fight with a body shot (which by the way I thought was borderline legal). I also watched an amateur fight where Betrebiev put Usyk down with a body shot (but Usyk recovered and won the fight).

What Joseph Parker has done since his loss to Joyce far exceeds what Dubois or Bakole did in coming back from defeat.

He ended the career and era of The Bronze Bomber and outlasted the destroyer of the guy that destroyed him in The Big Bäng.

So where is his flowers ?

Parker has done a Lazarus. Absolutely incredible. I honestly thought he was done after Joyce destroyed him. And now it really looks like Joyce is done. Up and downs like a roller coaster. Props to Parker for his last two wins.

It's just a Russian troll who didn't like the guy saying "glory to Ukraine" earlier in the thread.

The translation sentiment is something like - "death to Ukraine, they are Naaziis. Glory to Russia. Victory will be ours" - or something similar (my high school Russian was some 50 years ago so I am a bit rusty).
