Can we put to bed the whole 'AJ has a bad chin cos he was KD'd by Dillian Whyte'

Two very solid shots put Joshua down. He got up and was not really in trouble after that.

Not saying he has a good chin, but i know this KD always gets brought up like it proves Joshua is packing glass

    When was that fight?

It's going to follow him throughout his career unfortunately, when you look so spectacular and are plowing through weak opposition people are going to be looking for weaknesses. Hell, even fighters with great chins get questioned.

Having said that I don't envision AJ having a granite chin, not that i think it's glass, i just can't see him being able to take too many huge shots, but that's not going on anything "technical" that I have seen, just a hunch.

2008 or so? it was Joshuas third (or so) fight and Dillian first (though he had experience as a kickboxer. Clearly both have improved massively

I think he will get hurt because he is a heavyweight who is inexperienced and doesnt have his defence down yet.

But i'm treating his chin as innocent until proven guilty

Oh that long ago. He did seem much more streaky and the other dude looked big.

I'm treating it as such also. I've been more impressed with him with each fight he has, he seems so composed and calm, which surprised me a bit considering the pressure the public put on him.

Anyone can score a knockout in the heavyweight division. But his defence to this day still needs major improvement as long as he keeps learning he might go far. I feel Hearn will guide him to the title the safest route but he's still so green he could be the green power ranger. I don't think he'll become champion Fraudley had better fundamentals

I wouldn't read much into that, the main thing was he showed good signs of recovery. Anyone can be put down, it's how you come back from it. If Froch goes down you know he can recover to win the fight, if Khan goes down his recovery levels are far less.

Joshua has improved massively since that fight, he was pretty much new to boxing at the time really. I think he will go on to be world champion.

Pretty poor quality from both - though it was 6 years ago and AJ is has improved beyond recognition.

My only concern with AJ is that he reminds me of Frank Bruno - big, muscular and athletic but maybe a bit slow defensively and prone to taking punishment if a fight goes past 8 rounds.

We won't know until he is really tested, and that won't be for at least 12-18 months.

                1. joshua was a novice.
                2. those were big, clean shots from a big guy.
                3. he seemed of balance.
                4. he got straight back up and didnt seem very hurt at all.
                5. anyone can get hurt, its boxing.

idk if joshua has a bad chin, he may very well have one. but being dropped once by some quality punches doesnt mean he cant take a punch. some people think its all black and white, either you get hurt or you dont. but everyone gets hurt, its when you get hurt frequently, by shots that arent too severe or opponents who cant really punch. THEN you can say someone has a bad chin. but simply getting dropped once doesnt mean anything more than that he is human.

I like Anthony Joshua, he has more about him than David Price ever did. I just hope they step him up after the Denis Bakhtov fight. At the least, get him the English title, get him in a position were the winner of Chisora-Fury II has to vacate or fight him. As an Olympic gold medalist I do believe the guy shouldn't be rushed etc, things should be done right. I'd much rather see him going Area -> English -> British -> Commonwealth -> European. Forget all this alphabet soup "Intercontinetal" "International" "Interim Interim" belts against puddings.

Frustrates me how Eddie Hearn tries this trick were he puts his fighters up against foreigners nobody has ever heard of who have on paper or at first glance decent records. Talks them up like it's a good test etc but really they have no chance.

a solid right from a big guy who put so much swing into it he spins right round.. I think that'd knock anyone down, and thats what it was, a knock down. To get back straight up after that and still have legs at all was impressive.

He takes the left hook at 5.15 and although not a well balanced power shot, his head is already rocked so he could have went down but he didn't.

Being so early in his career that could have been the first time taking a hit like that in a fight. Probs had taken some in sparring but with big gloves. Plus hes already off balance and falling backwards after what looks like getting his leg caught at the beginning of the flurry
