    Fathers And Sons

Which father and son were most successful strictly on pugilistic accomplishments, not including trainers, etc.? Just as boxers.

Roy Jones sr. fought Hagler. That ain't bad. Tito sr. fought Sanchez. A forum full of buffs must know more. Laila Ali is not a son, so does not count here.

Is it more often that the father is famous and the mediocre son tries to follow in his footsteps, or do sons of former boxers and champs more often become more famous and great than their mediocre fathers?

Is there a case where both acheived highly in the sport?

i seem to see a pattern in most sports where talented but not atg types produce atg type sons in both boxing and my other favorite sport which is basketball. the mayweathers come to mind as do the jones. Duran son boxed but did not have any potential. in bb look at the bryants kobes dad was bigger and was talanted but never achieved what Kobe did. robinson and alis sons never even tried the sport i believe

Floyd sr. and Floyd jr. might be the winners. Floyd sr. was better for his weight than Marvis Frazier or Camacho jr. for theirs, wasn't he? Off the top of my head I cannot think of a higher acheiving pair than Floyd and Floyd.

Guty Espadas and Guty Espadas Jr. both won world titles

... as did Wilfredo Vazquez and Wilfredo Vazquez Jr.

And then we of course have Chávez/Chávez Jr.

Floyd Patterson and his adopted son Tracy Harris Patterson.

Anthony Mundines' father Tony was a top middleweight contender in the 70s.

Typical post from "The Forum Fool".. Your claiming Floyd Sr. was more succesfull than Marvis Frazier?... Floyd Sr. achieved "Nothing" in his career. Floyd Sr. was nothing more than a journeyman, whose claim to fame is losing almost every round to Ray Leonard and to Marlon Starling. Floyd Sr. never beat a single opponent of worth throughout his whole career.. Marvis Frazier on the other hand, holds a fist full of excellent victories on his resume. Wins over Bonecrusher Smith, Quick Tillis, Joe Bugner, Funso Banjo and James Broad read well. Marvis also beat many top name fighters in his amateur career. Mitch Green, Tony Tubbs, Tim Witherspoon and Jimmy Clark. Frazier lost a world title challenge to Larry Holmes in only his 11th pro bout..

some times I think many people define Marvis career by the brutal ko loss to tyson and paint mike spinks with the same brush even tho mike was a fantastic lightheavy
