    Carlos Palomino

Carlos Palomino was an excellent fighter I learned a lot about him from Scott. He was a tremendous body puncher too. I wish there was a unification fight between Palomino and Cuevas.

For those who watched him fight, how far would he go in the welterweight division today? Would he have beaten Cuevas?

I think he would have beaten Cuevas; he was too slick and took a good shot. He was also a possessor of quick hands and feet.

How far would he go today? Well, I think he'd be in the thick of things. Pac's past his best, Bradley's the hyperactive type; but no great boxer. Mayweather would have trouble with his activity level and accuracy, since he's past his nest too.

Don't know if he'd come out on top; but he did have the talent to be a spoiler.

That's one thing I hear a lot about Palomino. I think Roberto Duran's win over Palomino was one of his most impressive victories. He completely dominated an excellent fighter in the welterweight division.

It's unfortunate that a unification fight with Cuevas never happened.

i seen Palominio fight twice. He was an excellent fighter who could box or punch.

There is a good vid on Robertos infighting tech feat ing the palomino fight. It goes into slow motion and has a narrative showing Robertos man vering. When I watch that fight I do not q estion carlos effort b t wonder if he was tentative. In hands of Stone he admits robertos defensive mode took him o t of his offense. I wo ld have to see more of carlos and pipinos fights prior to hearns and d rans fights to have a definite feel for a winner b t I lean towards carlos.

Yeah "tentative" is a good description of him. He thought to much of landing on his can so when in tough he had a tendency to make sure he "landed on his feet"!

He had the tools but when under good pressure he wasn't as willing.
Against Pepino he would out box him and win. Pepino was so one dimentional
he could never hang with the quality welters. He would be ok today because none of the current guys can punch hard.

Palomino-Stracey is a good fight to watch

I think i'd favour him over Cuevas. He'd definitely be in the mix today, near the top end of what is currently a strong welterweight division. Palomino has looked less than he was because he came after Napoles and before Leonard/Hearns/Duran.

I saw Palomino fight many times, and twice in person. He did a lot of things well, but nothing great. What was great was his chin and his stamina. If he were around now he would be just like then, competitive with everyone but not good enough to beat the elite.

Palomino and Cuevas really should have fought since they were both based in L.A. at the same time. But they had different promoters and you know how that goes. Palomino had a bad style for Cuevas since he could probably hang in against his brutal power.

i seen him fight live` twice here in the UK, he defeated our best of that time in winning the title from John H. Stracey. then defending it and beating "The Fen Tiger" Dave Green at Wembley.
