Iran Barkly and his victories over hearns

Can someone explain to me why Iran had the hitmans number

He was big, could take punishment, hit like a tank and wanted to win.

Stopped Tommy in a 2 or 3 round war and won a split! I don't think that's "having his number"!
Iran in top shape and motivated is Hearn's size and actually thicker and physically stronger. He also carried could whack pretty well.
He has some great wins and some losses that made people wonder about him but that's boxing and the characters that are main players in it!
Fans never were bored with Iran even when he was picking up the pennies and not doing so well.
      I liked Iran. Ray.

and Tommy couldn't hold himself back from such an easy target and left himself vulnerable.
The Motor City Cobra would have beat him bloody.
The Hitman couldn't resist biting off more than he could chew.

Top two reasons are probably Barkley's awkward style and that he simply hit too hard for Tommy. Barkley scored more knockdowns over Hearns than Leonard and Hagler combined.

There are worse guys that could have your number.

Very similar to Forrest mayorga.. Including that both bouts ended first in a 3 rd ko and then a split decision

Iran was taking a beating inf the first fight, but he deserved a clear decision in the second bout. It would have been quite a roberry if Tommy had been awarded the nod.

in the first fight he just caught him.

hearns was a much older fighter in terms of wear and tear than his age would have you think and as a result his punch resistance was badly diminished. in addition to that he moved up two weights already and was taking on the biggest MW i ever seen, a LHW boiled down to 160 really in barkley.

hearns was dominating the fight but in typical hitman fashion he was looking for the finish allowing a desperate barkley to land a hail mary punch.

in the rematch hearns was all but shot. beating hill was the last great performance of a great fighter. it was also a good stylistic match up for him unlike barkley.

at that point it wasnt so much barkley having his number as it was a new day in the boxing world. hagler was long retired, leonard had been destroyed by norris and while duran was still fighting he wasnt anything close to THE roberto duran anymore. just like THE thomas hearns no longer existed.
