The European Boxing Union held its annual general assembly last weekend in Sarajevo, Bosnia and Herzegovina.

Queensberry’s Frank Warren was named EBU promoter of the year. Tania Alvarez, of Spain was received the award for EBU female champion of the year. Sam Noakes, of the UK, was named EBU male champion of the year. And the EBU fight of the year went to France’s Jordi Weiss and Spain’s Samuel Molina.

The Albanian Boxing Union and the Lithuanian Professional Boxing Federation went from provisional members to full members.

The Professional Boxing Association of Slovenia was accepted as a provisional member. Heading the PBA is former IBF and EBU champ Jan Zaveck.

It was decided, to better respect the rules, not to grant postponements of championship contests won by purse bid without agreement from both parties.

The Federations were asked to be careful when authorizing boxers and fights – a very delicate matter. (Tight budgets and last-minute subs very often equate to bad mismatches.)

In case of a boxer pulling out of a contest for medical reasons, in cases when the date and venue are already set, the EBU will ask for a neutral medical certificate from a doctor appointed by the EBU.
