Having worked with Ukrainian great Vasiliy Lomachenko throughout his career, Top Rank promoter Bob Arum said it has “been an honor.”

Earlier today, Lomachenko announced on social media that he was retiring, aged 37, and sunsetting his 18-3 (12 KOs) career, having won titles in three weight classes and ensuring he will make it into the International Boxing Hall of Fame.

Lomachenko, one of the amateur greats, won a world title in just his third fight, and wrapped up his third world title in a third division after just 12 contests, and in 2022 he paused his decorated career to go home and join a territorial defense battalion after the Russian invasion.

“It’s been an honor for all of us at Top Rank to promote the pro boxing career of Vasiliy Lomachenko,” said Arum. “He was a generational champion, and we will all miss his participation in the sport.”

Scotland’s former world champion Alex Arthur spoke for many in the sport when he said: “We might not see anything like Lomachenko again for 100 years.”

In a statement, the WBO said: “Lomachenko burst onto the boxing scene with unmatched skill and dedication, quickly establishing himself as one of the most technically proficient and electrifying fighters of his generation. As he transitions out of the ring, Lomachenko’s legacy remains secure, which will surely be celebrated and recognized with his well-deserved induction into the International Boxing Hall of Fame.”
