Michael Conlan’s next fight could be set for Dublin in September, possibly against Jack Bateson, though sources have told BoxingScene that while the fight is “in the works” the deal is not quite there yet.
Conlan, 33, is promoted by Wasserman Boxing and his comeback from consecutive defeats to Luis Lopez and Jordan Gill began with victory over Asad Asif Khan in Brighton in March over eight rounds.
The Irish star and two-time Olympian is now 19-3 (9 KOs), and not only joined Wasserman as his promoters, but he linked up with Sheffield coach Grant Smith in his effort to position for another world title opportunity.
Conlan has not boxed in Dublin before, but it is understood that the fight with Bateson is headed to the 3Arena on September 5.
It had initially looked like Conlan would face Spain’s European featherweight champion Cristobal Lorente, after they went face to face following the Khan fight, but Lorente instead fights Reuben Gil on July 5 in Spain.
Bateson, from Leeds, is 20-1-1 (6) and last boxed in December when a clash of heads damaged both he and Danny Quartermaine, forcing the fight to be stopped within two rounds.
