Vargas has done nothing to warrant world title consideration. His resume doesn't even qualify as paper-thin. He's a manufactured contender and I'd take any of Higa, Tsutsumi, or old man Nonito to stop him early.
Deserving or not, people forget that Vargas has been the WBA mandatory since February of ***2024*** (16 month ago). It all started with Takuma due to his voluntary with Ancajas being pushed back had a lot of mandatories backed up. He fought his first mandatory Ishida on May 2024 on the Inoue-Nery undercard, and put in a voluntary with Tsutsumi prior to doing his next mandatory Vargas. The plan kinda effed up when on October 2024 Tsutsumi defeated Takuma, and then Tsutsumi decided to fight Higa on February 2025 (which is why Vargas, as a step aside got elevated to interim in December of 2024). The key point here is that Tsutsumi vs Higa was a voluntary (not a mandatory) with the requirement that the winner faces the mandatory interim champion = Vargas before July (I think), but because Tsutsumi can't fight next until late fall/winter Vargas got elevated to full.
Tsutsumi's next fight is most likely going to be against the winner of Higa vs Vargas (I expect Higa for third time the charm) in November/December on the undercard of Tenshin vs Estrada (my guess) for the vacant WBC strap once Nakatani vacates and moves up to 122. As for the crazy and unnecessary WBA interim of Donaire, I am expecting Donaire to fight Chocolatito for one last blast from the past hurrah around the end of the year, and if the winner doesn't retire then they will end up doing their retirement match against the winner of Tsutsumi vs Higa III.

Besides, compared to guys like Scull becoming a beltholder robbing Shishkin or the whole Canizales vs Panya public larceny, I'd say atleast within undeserving candidates atleast Vargas didn't rob his crummy opponent but KOed him fair and square(?) so that is something...maybe?
