The ref in the Juan Martin Coggi vs Eder Gonzalez fight. He did a number of things and the ones he did not enforce.

Overall, I do not think referees have that much of a history of controversy. Obviously, judging has always been the problem in boxing. Referees generally speaking, with the exception of some of the examples listed here, has been fairly good. And in boxing, I think fairly good is as close to excellent as the sport can get.

Robert Byrd in the Briedis vs Glowacki fight made some particularly egregious errors, albeit it was only R3 so may not have directly affected the overall result, but it was hard to watch him totally lose himself in the ring and have zero awareness of what he was doing in there.

Amir Khan being deducted 2pts for "pushing" against Lamont Peterson which turned a UD win into a SD loss was very controversial, especially in addition to Peterson popping for PEDs and the shady character "helping" a judge with his scoring.

Lawrence Cole should be thrown out of boxing for allowing about 80 punches to the nuts of Loma

Tom Taylor showed his true colors Saturday night, recovering the extra point Morrell gained from the knockdown, jumping in with no warnings to take a point, even though both were guilty of throwing after the bell.

                  Marquez v Barerra -

obvious missed knockdown scored by Barerra. Then while JMM is trying to stay up/get up, Barerra steps over and hits him while his gloves were down on the ground, and Jay Nady steps in and deducts a point from Barerrra. Didn't end up mattering as the official scores were wide, but in the moment it seemed pivotal.

Roberto Duran Vs Ken Buchanan deserves a mention. I'm sure Manos would have prevailed, but the stoppage was mad. Not only was the blow below the belt it was also after the bell. It has to be noted it was the ref's 1st & only World title fight. Ken deserved at least a re-match!
