Lopez isn't much of a boxer , but he's one hell of a fighter , like Navarette too . I will watch anytime that they get in the ring. They come to fight and entertain , what's not to like ?

I am so glad that there is finally some love being thrown the way of boxers who actually want to go to battle. For the last 20 years, it seems like protecting the record of someone in hopes of a big payday is all that mattered. That I am seeing stories, comments, and discussions dropping respect on fighters who may have multiple losses but that have gone to war with the best they can makes me smile.

I have used this quote on this site before, but it seems appropriate to use it again. In the middle of the Civil War, when things were still very much hanging in the balance, a group of cabinet officials wanted Lincoln to remove the hard drinking, cigar chomping, foul mouthed Ulysses S. Grant from his command out west as they viewed him as a determent to the Union cause and was being held up to sway public opinion against the war. (In their defense, he kind of was.) However, Lincoln rejected it outright saying :

"We cannot spare this man. He FIGHTS."

That is how I feel about warriors like Lopez.

First time I saw Venador was his loss against Villa which was a tough matchup. The next time I saw him was against Andy Vences...even though Andy looked shopworn I thought he deserved the win. It was one of the rare occasions where the fighter with the promotional backing lost the close fight.

Venado is awkward but he has some heavy hands and he can take some punishment. I will always remember his beatdown of Gabe Flores Jr....
