Comments Thread For: Prograis: I Wanna Be A Three-Time Champion At 140, Then Go Ahead & Switch To MMA

Regis Prograis plans to get an even later start on his next sport than when he took up boxing at the age of 17. The former WBC super lightweight champion surprisingly spoke about launching a second career as a mixed martial artist after his 12-round, unanimous-decision defeat to Devin Haney on Saturday night at Chase Center. Prograis stated during his post-fight press conference that he has wanted to try MMA for quite some time, but his place in boxing as a world champion prevented him from attempting to pursue a second sport, the way three-division women's champ Claressa Shields has done.

WHAT ? SAY WHAT ? who talks like this after a fight that he was beaten down in ? i just dont get it anymore what some of these guys are thinking or saying put a mic in front of them and they real ****** real fast. Should be boxing law if you loose you cannot talk thru a mic for 30 days..........like a drunk and disorderly charge...........

Unless he has been training Muay Thai, Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu, freestyle wrestling, Judo, catch wrestling, and Karate for the last 5 years in his spare time that's probably not a great idea. Even Shields took a loss and the depth of talent in women's MMA is tiny compared to the men's game.

He might as well go NOW. I don't see him beating nobody wit a belt at 140. The rolly fight might be a war

They only one he might be able to fight is Rolly but others have their sights on him also.

I am a big Prograis fan but the last two fights have shown that he is on a fast decline. He will be a name on a resume if he continues to fight at 140.

Prograis is coming to terms with what he is. He's just an okay boxer. He's only good enough to contend and occasionally luck his way into a championship or two. He's not good enough to dominate against the very elite at 140/147. MMA (or garbage man) might be his calling.

He gets flattened in his first fight at MMA against a nobody... A billion flaws that are asking to be knockouts in MMA.

If your able to become three time champion at 140, it's just not going to mean all that much, because you just got smoked by Haney.
Taking advantage of the other boxing organizations championships belt's of which there are far to many, really doesn't mean anything.
